OUR MISSION
The New York Chamber Choir is a 20- to 25- voice ensemble made up of singers from New York City and the surrounding area, performing works from the Western Classical canon and beyond. Our members hail from a wide range of personal, professional, and musical backgrounds—from trained professionals and gigging musicians, to music educators, to dedicated avocational choristers.
Founded in 2014 by former Artistic Director Alistair Hamilton, the New York Chamber Choirs originally comprised an adult and a youth ensemble; under the (figurative) baton of Maia McCormick since the fall of 2019, NYCC has narrowed its focus to a single ensemble, and strives to provide the highest quality musical experience for its members and audiences.
In the dense amateur choral landscape of New York City, NYCC is one of a minority of non-professional ensembles that does not charge dues or require ticket sales. We are committed to keeping this group as accessible as possible: we partner with local voice teachers to offer discounted voice lessons; provide financial support to members when needed (e.g. when buying COVID tests before performances); work hard to keep ticket prices low; and offer free or discounted tickets to audience members in need.
NYCC does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender identity or expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations (including but not limited to: auditioning singers; selecting board members and volunteers; and ticket sales). We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all of our singers and audience members.
